EXCERPTS
– First Selectman Rob Mallozzi and other Fairfield
County officials have come out strongly against a part of HB 6851, which would
create a Transit Corridor Development Authority. In its original language, the
bill would have given this new state entity control over all land within half a
mile of all Metro-North transit stations without having to follow local zoning
laws. A half-mile around the New Canaan
Metro-North station comprises of almost all of downtown.
In
its latest form, the proposed 11-member authority, which is part of Gov.
Malloy’s Let’s Go CT initiative, would now need to
cooperate with local zoning, but retains its control over state owned land.
